The great value place to stay in the Yorkshire Dales

The Kettlewell Hostel is a multi award winning 42 bed independent hostel in a beautiful Yorkshire Dales village. It is owned and run by Saul and Floss Ward who bought the hostel in 2015 and have worked hard ever since to make it the best it can be. We have earned a great reputation for our excellent food and a friendly welcome and, in 2020, we won a YHA award for being the highest ranked hostel for customer satisfaction in Western Europe .

We have eleven bedrooms: some larger family rooms, some smaller rooms for couples and individuals as well as traditional hostel dorm beds. Whether you are here walking the Dales Way, on a break from city life or taking some time to re-connect with your family and friends away from it all, Kettlewell is a great place to stay.

We serve the most delicious home cooked food, lovely locally sourced breakfasts, home made packed lunches and hearty evening meals including our wonderful 8 hour beef stew with proper mash and peppered cabbage and a great range of local ales to enjoy. We have a large and airy dining room in which to enjoy your food. In the evening you relax in front of the wood-burning stove upstairs in the lounge, pick up a book from our lovely bookshop, or play one of our many of board games.

Stay in Kettlewell Hostel The hostel was warm, clean and the staff were very welcoming. The dry room was great at drying my clothes after a wet day in the hills. The full English breakfast was excellent and certainly value for money.

Lovely hostel in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales Brilliantly located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Good storage for bikes and very attentive and forthcoming staff. Let us store some of our luggage there before our stay. Delicious hearty food, including vegan options. Nice decor and great fireplace.

Good place to stay when walking the Dales Way Stayed here on day 2 of my Dales Way walk, Having stopped in youth hostels on only three occasions before, this being independent hostel proved to be way ahead of the normal hostels. On arriving I can only say the owner is probably the most enthusiastic owner I've ever come across , after having a guided tour he asked if we needed a evening meal .we had to decline having booked in at local pub, .he told us we would be missing out as the food was excellent and big potions.he sold it to us.after cancelling the pub we place are order for 7.00pm.on both statements he was 100% correct. The price was very reasonable and the bottle beer not over priced. Now to breakfast, previous stayes in hostel breakfast has been very disappointing One's again large serving at good price. I would definitely stay here again

A hostel with hosts that make you feel like you've come home for the weekend So you've spent your week in a varied mix of hostels and you want to end on a high. There's no better place to do that than in the Yorkshire Dales and at the Kettlewell Hostel, where you'll be warmly greeted by Saul and Floss. The hostel is bright, tastefully decorated, offers some fantastic views and is blessed with a collection of books that will inspire reading. It is immaculately clean and is totally organised for a safe Covid-19 free stay with assigned eating areas, showers and toilets. There's even a relaxing lounge where you can chill and share your experiences whilst staying socially distanced from others. The breakfast was first class with a rich choice of freshly cooked full English, vegetarian and vegan options. You won't go hungry. They also have a nice choice of homemade evening meals for all persuasions and tastes. Saul and Floss know the area well and can recommend walks for all tastes and abilities. If you're an outdoor person, Kettlewell and the neighbouring "All Creatures Great and Small" villages and dales offer much to see and do. Well worth a stay. We'll be back again, soon. Thank you.

Fabulous hostel In this bizarre new world of covid it is hard to be welcoming but this YH has nailed it. Safe, friendly, comfortable, with great food and amazing service, clear information and books everywhere. Wonderful place to stay with great walks and it feels like the hostel and its owners really care. Could not recommend more

Amazing hostel - food, welcome and views were immense. We stayed here this weekend with 3 children (6, 9 and 11). Accommodation is perfect. We were warmly welcomed and so well fed after a long walk. Dinner and breakfast and the wine and cups of tea all delicious. Everywhere is beautifully presented and spotless and the views are incredible. This is nothing like a yha, it is more like a boutique hotel with bunks. The communal space is welcoming and relaxing and there is an extensive library and lovely board games. Covid 19 ensured our holiday abroad was cancelled this year but Kettlewell hostel provided a fine tonic instead . We will be back!

Amazing, wonderful place! Our stay was awesome. The hostel is in such a beautiful location, and the owners are extremely lovely people - so welcoming and friendly. And the food!! The food is divine. We had both dinner and breakfast and felt like we were eating food that is normally served to kings! We felt very safe there in terms of Coronavirus, as we had a dedicated table just for us, and same with the bathroom and shower. Plenty of hand sanitisers too - it was obvious a great care and thought was put into it to make the place very safe in this respect. They have a fabulous garden area too with very comfortable sunbeds. Honestly, even the playlist in the dining room was just great. Absolutely can and do recommend, a wonderful place to stay! Thank you so much Floss and Saul!!

Really great Spent 3 nights here Floss and Saul gave us a real warm welcome and are very knowledgeable about the walks in the area. The homemade food was great, we ate breakfast and dinner lovely. The whole hostel was clean and tidy, and had very relaxed atmosphere considering the pandemic situation. Great hosts. We will be back thanks again.

Excellent, excellent, excellent Would give Floss and Saul six stars if I could for their warmth and how they've set the place up. The last few months have been tough on us all but you can come here and relax. Feels safe without tape and arrows everywhere. Just have to give an accolade to the breakfasts and evening meals - we get very well fed at home so we are well qualified to say that it's terrific (and better than the local pubs). Our second time and we'll be back.

Brilliant! Outstanding! From the first email and phone call, the customer service and attention to detail from Saul and Floss was amazing. They were really helpful and flexible, especially catering for our two young children, providing a suitable room, highchairs and adapting their normal menu. They made us feel relaxed and welcome in their lovely hostel on our first post lockdown adventure- well worth the 5 month wait! The hostel is beautifully presented and has been well adapted to the present circumstances with social distancing well organised whilst still being fun! The food was delicious and we really enjoyed browsing the second hand books that are on sale. This is a fantastic place to stay. We can't wait to go back!
