The great value place to stay in the Yorkshire Dales

The Kettlewell Hostel is a multi award winning 42 bed independent hostel in a beautiful Yorkshire Dales village. It is owned and run by Saul and Floss Ward who bought the hostel in 2015 and have worked hard ever since to make it the best it can be. We have earned a great reputation for our excellent food and a friendly welcome and, in 2020, we won a YHA award for being the highest ranked hostel for customer satisfaction in Western Europe .

We have eleven bedrooms: some larger family rooms, some smaller rooms for couples and individuals as well as traditional hostel dorm beds. Whether you are here walking the Dales Way, on a break from city life or taking some time to re-connect with your family and friends away from it all, Kettlewell is a great place to stay.

We serve the most delicious home cooked food, lovely locally sourced breakfasts, home made packed lunches and hearty evening meals including our wonderful 8 hour beef stew with proper mash and peppered cabbage and a great range of local ales to enjoy. We have a large and airy dining room in which to enjoy your food. In the evening you relax in front of the wood-burning stove upstairs in the lounge, pick up a book from our lovely bookshop, or play one of our many of board games.

Superb! We stayed here as a family group - 2 adults and one teenager. We shared a room which had a sink in it too. Toilets & showers were just along the corridor. The entire place was immaculately clean and had lovely decor. There was a cosy lounge with a log fire and books aplenty to browse. We had an evening meal here and it was first class. Lovely fresh, home cooking. Breakfast was also lovely - the hearty bowl of porridge saw us through our walk the next day. There is a kitchen so you can self cater if preferred but I’d definitely recommend the food. The owners were very helpful. We also had a packed lunch made up for us and the filled rolls did not disappoint. A gem of a place - can’t recommend highly enough!

Possibly the best hostel that I have stayed in I can only add to the other 5 star reviews of this excellent hostel. I have been using youth hostels in England and Scotland since 1977 and this is most probably the best hostel that I have ever stayed in. I have just returned there from a two night stay as part of a 20 strong walking group. The hostel was clean and warm and the facilities were excellent. We ate breakfast and evening meals there. The meals were of a very high quality, reasonably priced and served bang on time. They also have an on licence which allows them to sell bottled beers from local breweries along with spirits and wine. If you're a keen reader you won't be disappointed by the amazing collection of paperbacks that grace the dining room and quiet room, all of which are available to purchase. The staff are both friendly and informative and also sell local OS maps and a very good walking guide listing walks from Kettlewell, which is an excellent location for exploring this part of the national park. Book your stay there now; you won't be disappointed !

If only I could give it 6 stars! Without a doubt the finest hostel I've ever stayed in. This is not your typical YHA! Excellent food, lovely rooms, and a really friendly welcome from Saul and Floss the owners. Rooms, bathrooms and throughout were smart and clean, and the whole hostel feels loved! Will definitely be returning!

The Finest hostel I have ever stayed in!! We arrived after the 7pm evening meal time yet the served us with the tastiest food you could wish for after our 40k day. The hostel has the warmest friendliest atmosphere I've ever experienced. This hostel is the benchmark that all hostels should aspire to be. Thank you so much to Saul and Floss. Can't wait to come back with my family and friends 😊

Top Marks All Round Your host are Saul & Flossie who are doing a great job. The hostel has recently been refurbished to a great standard and feels very homely. The food is outstanding and the overall facilities excellent so recommend you visit to enjoy the best hostel experience. Kettlewell has much to offer for a break away from walking or cycling the by ways through some stunning countryside to gentle strolls along the river.

Whernside hiking challenge in Kettlewell We booked the hostel as a base to hike the Whernside challenge and could not have found a better, more friendly place to stay. Saul & Flos are the perfect hosts - just so so friendly and attentive. The hostel is wonderful, the food amazing (packed lunches for our hike were the icing on the cake) and the local beers were delicious. Over ate, over laughed catching up with old friends - the weekend was perfect! We’ll definitely re-book and brink a crowd next time. Kettlewell is a great base for hiking, walking, cycling and more. And such a beautiful village. Thanks Saul and Flos.

Wish we could have stayed longer! Stayed at the Kettlewell Hostel as part of a bike trip round the Dales with a friend. What a fabulous place to stay! We had a lovely warm welcome, we're shown to our spotless room, which was spacious and bright. Obviously with covid we had a room to ourselves but even if it had been full, there was plenty of space. The showers were hot, the facilities were spotless and the lounge and dining areas were welcoming and comfortable. As well as being a perfect Hostel, the secondary business is a secondhand bookstore! There are bookcases everywhere with a fantastic array of interesting books, from travel writing to cookbooks and everything in between. Everything is extremely fairly priced and it was hard not to spend a fortune!! Really wish we could have stayed longer, and will definitely be back. Thanks very much!

Perfect place with excellent food. This hostel is an absolute gem. We stayed a couple of nights as part of a group cycling weekend and it was perfect. The warm welcome made us feel at home after a long day and the food was top notch (ate at the hostel both nights). Even with the covid restrictions, this place felt cosy and relaxing. One member of our group had never stayed in a hostel and when we left he was talking about returning with his family. Brilliant.

Wonderful Hospitality. The owners were soooo welcoming and accommodating. I arrived late. After food orders. And they were more than happy to make me some food (very tasty and huge portions). Lovely to see people who are genuinely happy In their work. Can’t recommended enough.

The dining room seats up to 42 so it can double up as a classroom or conference room, and our lounge makes an excellent spot for informal training, map work or just spending time in front of the fire for an evening.

Kettlewell is a perfect base from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales. There are loads of great walks straight from the front door: why not take a gentle route along the river Wharfe, or enjoy the views on your way up Great Whernside and Buckden Pike?

We have a large secure bike shed and if you like a challenging ride there are 8 of the UK’s top 100 climbs within a days ride including the exciting Park Rash and Fleet Moss, the highest road in Yorkshire. We are also on the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway, the Tour De France route and The Way of the Roses, not forgetting more leisurely routes towards Grassington and Bolton Abbey.

We are proud to be part of the YHA network and offer a 10% discount on accommodation for YHA members, please remember to bring your YHA membership card to validate your discount.
